What machines should I use at the gym to lose weight?

No doubt, working out at a gym and staying active is a brilliant thing to do for your health. But you may see the benefits as muscle gain rather than weight loss.

If you’re set on shifting pounds, here are the machines you need to be checking out:

Treadmill

Remember, the way to get the best results from using the treadmill is to NOT hold onto the sides!

Mimicking a natural movement, and raising your heart rate are really good ways of shifting unwanted weight, and most of us don’t walk enough in our daily routine anyway.

Stair climber

Focusing on your lower body, you’ll build strength in your legs, but the constant up and down motion will get you moving and help shift extra calories.

Elliptical Trainer

The elliptical trainer can programme several HIIT sessions, and as we all now know, high intensity interval training is a brilliant way to shift weight, without taking ages over one exercise. This machine works your whole body, so is ideal for weight loss.

Group exercise bikes

Group biking in classes like spin have the edge on lonesome cycling, as you tend to push yourself more when in a group. The intensity can be ramped up or down, depending on your level, but cycling is a great fat burner – and when you’re trying to beat the person next to you – well you’re going to spend even more calories!

Battle ropes

This is one of those pieces of equipment that you look at and think, yes – that’s going to be easy. You’re wrong. Battle ropes are seriously challenging when done correctly, so expect to get a real sweat on, and in turn burn some proper calories! Not technically a machine – but when you can finally do them properly, you’ll certainly feel like one!
