What is a kettle bell?

You know those heavy balls with handles attached, often hidden away in the corner of the gym? Well they are kettle bells.

They originated in Russia so you know they are going to pack some power. Most gyms will have a set and kettle bells are worth a go if you want to spice up your workout.

Ask your gym instructor to show how to use these bad boys.

How do you use a kettle bell?

Kettle bells can be used in many different ways and add multiple benefits to your workout.

They come in many different sizes and weights so whatever your level there will be one to fit your workout.

Swinging, carrying, holding, lifting are all things that can be done with kettle bells. They are great to use as part of circuits and high intensity interval training for the ultimate cardio and fat burning workouts.

Kettle bell exercises can also be done on their own to help increase your power and strength whilst helping you work towards a flat stomach and strong core.

Not only are you getting a great workout, it really doesn’t take long to work up a sweat using kettle bells. You can be in and out of the gym in no time, and still feel the post workout burn you have learnt to love.

What are the benefits?

Not only is the kettle bell great for fitness and weight-loss but it is great for coordination, especially with all the quick flowing movements.

Kettle bells are essentially free weights so they work all the stabilising muscles, especially around the shoulder joint, on top of the larger muscles. Most kettle bell exercises involve holding a handle, which will naturally help increase your grip strength.
