The Rise of The Multi Gym Membership

The Rise of The Multi Gym Membership

1 in every 7 people in the UK is a member of a gym, an all-time penetration rate high of 14.3%. Now, joining a gym is not a new thing...but having uncapped access to 100s of gyms near you is.

With growing numbers and ‘on-demand’ becoming the norm, you expect to be able to do what you want, when you want. It is therefore no surprise that gym memberships need to reflect this. We have been looking a little closer at Husslemer’s and found two distinct Monthly+ Pass user groups.

Firstly the 'on-the-movers', students/ business travellers are people with lives that operate in loads of different locations. They use on average 4.2 different gyms per month and would not buy a membership if they were not comfortable there was always going to be an option local to where they are.

The second group are the 'commuters'. This group work and live in different locations. They have a main gym they use, which tends to be near work and the gym they use on weekends which they use less frequently. Occasionally they use a third gym when away on business or on holiday. On average they use 2.1 gyms per month with visit ratio of 3:1 from primary to secondary gym.

These two groups highlight the rise of multi gym membership and why having the freedom to work out where, and when you like, is such a necessity. Combined with rolling contracts means that you are in complete control. UK Active have noticed the rise and say: “Greater flexibility in payment options, such as short-term and no-contract models, has widened the appeal of gym memberships by reducing the cost barrier and meeting the needs of time-pressured consumers.”

Are you considering a more flexible pass that gives you access to many gyms in your area? Search your postcode and see what gyms are in your area.
