Top tips for motivation

Top tips for motivation

The sofa beckons, and maybe it’s a bit chilly outside, or maybe you just can’t be bothered. Whatever the reason for your lackadaisical state of mind, there are ways to help boost your enthusiasm for action. Here are some top tips:

Get your kit on:

It’s often just that simple. Get dressed for your sport and you’ll feel energised to go out and do it. You’re half way there, at least!

Take a mate:

When you’re thinking of taking a rain check on that dance class, your mate won’t be. And they’ll make you feel guilty for skipping a class. Likewise, you can do the same to them. More reason not to miss it.

Drop the mileage:

Choose a location close by. If you’re feeling super-lazy, just go and do some squats in the back garden or run up the stairs. Choose a gym that’s close to where you live. Don’t give yourself miles to travel before you’ve even started.

Go high intensity:

Try HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). The theory is that short bursts of high activity are better for us than slogging it out for hours on the treadmill or pushing weights. Get it over quickly and you might be more motivated to do it again!

Go on.... treat yourself!

No, not with a chocolate bar! Promise yourself a manicure, a new pair of trainers or something that doesn’t involve too many calories to give yourself incentive. After all, you’re worth it!
