The quick detox diet

The quick detox diet

A regular detox is a great way to clear your body of toxins and boost your overall wellbeing. But many people are unsure how to do it.

Here’s a simple, 3 step guide to detoxing your body effectively and quickly.

To get the best results from detoxing, it helps to prepare your body first. Spend at least 3 days beforehand making a few dietary tweaks and simple lifestyle changes:

  • Limit wheat.
  • Cut out obvious sugars such as chocolate and cakes.
  • Sleep 8-9 hours a night.
  • Drink plenty of water – around 1.5 litres a day will help flush out toxins.
  • Reduce or cut out caffeine, which can release cortisol, triggering the storage of abdominal fat.
  • Eat plain foods such as porridge and berries for breakfast, baked potato and tuna for lunch, chicken breast and steamed vegetables for tea. Stock up on plenty of healthy food now so you will be prepared for your proper detox.

Breakfast – Drink a cup of hot water and lemon juice to start each day. Follow this by a super greens smoothie. There are some great recipes here.

Mid-morning -  enjoy a fibre-packed drink such as this Almond Butter Matcha Smoothie. The antioxidant-rich matcha will give you a real pick-me-up.

Lunch – have a comforting bowl of soup. This couldn’t be easier: just take 200g of vegetables, chop them up, chuck in a pan with stock and cook! You could add some extra herbs or spices for flavouring. Make a different soup the next day, or treble the quantities and you have enough to last you the whole 3 days.

Dinner – Finally, real food! Choose between baked cod and steamed vegetables, tofu stir-fry with vegetables and soy sauce served on steamed grated cauliflower, or poached salmon and roasted vegetables.

  • Keep drinking water throughout the day.
  • Use a body brush before you shower to help you detoxify further.
  • Have a Epsom salts bath in the evening to help your body release toxins.
  • Focus on relaxing exercise such as yoga. You won’t have the energy for anything too strenuous!

You will need to take it slowly as you ease yourself back into 3 meals a day. Try to remain as healthy as possible, eating plenty of greens, white fish, chicken and soups.

Now is the time to exercise – sweat is great for getting rid of those unwanted toxins. Use a gym pass to try some high-intensity workouts, combined with some spinning or circuit-training classes.
