The beauty of exercising

The beauty of exercising

While we all agree that exercise makes our bodies look great, there’s also a less obvious benefit: a beauty boost. How active you are directly affects whether your complexion and hair glows or groans. Want to know more? Read on…

During aerobic exercise your body pumps blood faster around your body and your skin is delivered a lovely dose of oxygenated blood, nutrients and hormones which gives you a lovely glow for hours. Not only that but this increased blood also removes cellular debris and waste products which might otherwise dull and constrict the skin.

Anything that makes your heart pump faster will help you get that glow, whether it’s running in the great outdoors or lifting weights in the gym. The key is to do it regularly.

Working out helps to boost collagen production and promote youthful skin. A 2014 study by US researchers found that exercise changes skin composition, helping the inner and outer skin of people in their 60s become similar to those in their 20s and 30s.

Exercise also helps to reduce the stress hormone cortisol, high levels of which can lead to collagen in the skin breaking down.

The boost in circulation helps to draw out toxins from the skin and reduce skin inflammation, while all that sweating can help clean out congested pores. Working out also helps to balance hormones which could otherwise lead to monthly acne breakouts.

If you’re prone to acne, be sure to avoid wearing heavy makeup on your face during exercise so you don’t block your pores, and cleanse your face from sweat thoroughly afterwards.

Improved blood flow, full of nutrients, also nourishes and stimulates hair follicles, promoting healthy growth. Stress is also stressful for your hair, causing it to be dry and brittle. Exercising regularly increases happy hormones that help reduce stress hormones. Cardio workouts are a great choice for thicker, fuller hair, delivering nutrients and oxygen fast.
