We’ve all been there: you finally sit down at the end of the day, switch on the TV, and your hand starts twitching for some food. While many people believe you should avoid eating late at night, the truth is that it’s more important to focus on what you eat at night, rather than what time you eat. 

So, if the evening nibbles strike, just have some healthy snacks you can eat without consuming too much guilt.

Here are a couple of tasty ideas for you:

SPICY CHICKPEAS

This is a great healthy snack for when you’re craving carbohydrates. They are tiny. But addictive. Plus, you can eat any leftovers in a salad the next day.

INGREDIENTS

1 can chickpeas

1 tsp olive oil

1 tbsp chilli powder ( or cumin, paprika, or Cajun seasoning)

Pinch of sea salt and pinch of black ground pepper

METHOD

Preheat the oven to 220 degrees. Mix the chickpeas in a bowl with the oil and spice until they are coated. Spread on a baking sheet in a single layer and cook for 30 mins or until browned and slightly crispy . Remove from the oven and cool. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, serve and enjoy.

DARK CHOCOLATE NUT CLUSTERS

Fancy something sweet instead? Prepare this ahead and you will have a treat to grab from the freezer when the sugar cravings strike.

INGREDIENTS

240g dark chocolate

Dried cherries (optional)

200g whole almonds

Coconut shavings

METHOD

Line a baking sheet with baking paper. Melt the dark chocolate in pan, adding the cherries if you like them.

Place a teaspoon of melted chocolate onto the paper, then add 4 or 5 almonds onto each dollop of chocolate.

Drizzle some more chocolate over the top - about a tablespoon. Sprinkle over some coconut shavings. 

Place in the fridge for 10 minutes until set. You can now eat them straight away!
