The changeable Spring weather with its longer evenings, random showers and teasing sunshine is a perfect excuse for a cocktail. 

We've got tasty recipes to cover everything the weather can throw at us:


Mix the colours of a sunset in this alcohol-free super-simple brew.

Ingredients: 3 tablespoons lime cordial, 200ml orange juice (or squeeze two oranges), 1 tablespoon grenadine syrup. Optional: straws, cocktail umbrellas, the full works!

Method: mix the lime and orange juice, then carefully pour in the syrup.

Variation: add a spritz of your favourite fizzy drink.


Back from that soggy run and need to dry out? Light the fire (possibly for the last time?) and enjoy this mulled wine variation.

Ingredients: 1 bottle red wine, handful of cranberries (defrosted if frozen), lemon juice, 1 stick of cinnamon, a small piece of thinly sliced ginger root

Method: very simple – put everything into a saucepan, bring to a gentle simmer, leave for 30 minutes. Pour and enjoy.


There are still a lot of colds lurking around. Fend off those spring sniffles with a dose of vitamin C and a little something to help you sleep.

Ingredients; 50ml blended whisky, 25ml lemon juice, 1 tablespoon honey, 1 small slice fresh ginger, splash single malt whisky (optional)

Method: mix the blended whisky, lemon juice and honey until smooth, then drop in the ginger slice. Leave for five minutes to infuse, then top carefully with the single malt.


Mix refreshing iced tea with delicious creamy flavours.

Ingredients: 2 parts iced tea, 1 part chocolate vodka, tablespoon whipped cream and some grated chocolate for the topping.

Method: Shake up the iced tea and vodka to make up the quantity you need, then decant into glasses. Top each carefully with the whipped cream so that it floats on the top, and sprinkle with the grated chocolate.


Here’s an unusual variation on a Bloody Mary, using the power of horseradish for spice and health.

Ingredients:  25 ml vodka, 1 bottle tomato juice, 1 teaspoon horseradish sauce, 6 splashes Worcester sauce, pepper, pinch of celery salt (optional)

Method: Put everything except the vodka into a shaker and mix well. Add the vodka, shake again, pour and enjoy.
