Necessary for energy, some carbs also are a great source of protein and vitamins. And no, they will not make you fat.
Here are the top carb sources which pack a nutritious punch:
aren't sweet potatoes quite sugary? (and high on the food miles?) It is now new potato season and I am enjoying those, delicious.
I wish I liked sweet potatoes as they are meant to be a more nutritional carb than standard potatoes. Surely normal potatoes are very good for you too though. I think they should be on this list too!
I can understand this anti-carb brigade who think that all carbs are bad. Yet now there seems to be an 'anti-anti-carb brigade' who seem to think that anyone who thinks all carbs are bad are completely wrong. I would say that there is some evidence to show that a high-carb diet, even one with wholegrains like wholegrain pasta and bread, are not the healthiest and can contribute to disease. We need to keep processed carbs low, and stick to things like sweet potatoes.
this 'carbs are bad' thing usually seems to come from those who can't tell the difference between cake and wholegrains! There are two types of carbohydrate, simple and complex. Neither is bad but the inability to understand the difference drives me, er, bananas!
I love all the above...except kidney beans. There is a lot of anti-carb hype, which is just not appropriate for those of us who are slim and active and can afford to eat as many wholegrains as we like!
