What Fitness Trends are in store for 2016?

1. Wearable Technology

What else can wearable tech do? Fitness trackers, smart watches, GPS tracking devices and much much more is already on our shelves and there is bound to be even more coming. More brands will bring out their latest models and beyond this there will be new innovations, sport-specific devices and there may be even more things to add to our lowdown of the top fitness technologies.

2. Functional Fitness

Functional fitness is based on the theory that every exercise we carry out should be designed to mimic functional activities in day to day life. It should be supportive of daily activities such as bending down, walking upstairs, reaching for high-shelved items and pushing and pulling doors open. This type of fitness primes your body for everyday life and comfort and strength in all that you do.

3. Bodyweight Training

Bodyweight training is trend which removes the need to pack your home out with all kinds of gym equipment. Using minimal equipment allows you to train at home when you need and it is for absolutely everyone.

Classic training moves such as your squat and lunge are the mainstay of bodyweight training and you can devise who circuits without the need of a single piece of equipment.

4. Strength Training for All

Strength training has jumped ahead of cardio in popularity and it's not hard to see why. Not only will your muscles get toned but you’ll also see the end of that stubborn body fat and burn more calories.

Weights aren't just for men, it is important for women to lift too. Strength training is becoming ever more popular with women - you only have to look at Twitter and Instagram hashtags like #girlswholift to see that more and more women are getting on board with the benefits.

5. High-Intensity Interval Training

HIIT is here to stay. The speed and intensity required push your body to the max but only for those short sharp second bursts, with a well-earned rest in between. A full body HIIT workout can take as little as 10 or 15 minutes and your body will feel all the benefits of hours of less effective training.
