GYMS ARE FULL OF STRONG, LEAN PEOPLE DOING THEIR PARTICULAR ROUTINES. IT’S EASY TO THINK THAT DOING THE SAME WORKOUTS WILL GET YOU THE SAME LONG LEGS AND TUCKED TORSO.
But can it really? Or are our bodies destined to be a certain shape regardless of how many squats we do?
The truth is there are parts of our bodies we cannot change. Bone structure, and the length of your upper and lower body are fixed. So forget about having long lean legs if you’re 5ft 1”.
However, we can use exercise to improve our body shape. Toning muscle, building bone strength, and reducing fat takes time and effort, but the pay offs are worth it. Here’s how:
Training regularly and eating well are the best ways to target fat stored under the skin. High intensity workouts such as running, HIIT, and Kettlebells are very effective and, done hard, will change your body shape quickly. Limiting sugars from your diet will also speed things up.
If you only do repetitive cardio workouts such as using treadmills or exercise bikes, you will build the large muscle groups of the hamstrings, quads and calves.
However, do compound exercises or circuit-training style workouts that do a variety of exercises and you will stimulate a larger number of muscle groups. This allows you, just as bodybuilders do, to shape your body.
It’s easy to let the large muscle groups give you momentum. But let them take over and you sacrifice working the smaller muscle groups you want to target. Focus on good form, using support if required.
This is great advice as i don't really want to lose weight, but want to look more slick and lean. I will add in more compound exercises as you advise.
