Get naked and get fit!

Looking to take a dip, try out some yoga or even go ten-pin bowling? Right then, get your kit off!

The rise of naked fitness pursuits is spreading across the planet it would seem, with Australia currently at the forefront of full frontal fitness. The annual Sydney Skinny swim event takes place in the capital’s harbour and attracted 700 liberated nude swimmers back in February. The philosophy of the swim is that if life seems a bit dull, this will add to your sense of adventure.

But it’s not just Australian swimmers that are stripping themselves of unnecessary accessories – New York and London have taken to naked yoga classes, such as Naked Yoga London and Joschi Bold & Naked giving a whole new experience to the downward dog. Nakedness for some can be a real leveller – with people feeling more “at one” with their environment and feeling more liberated having ditched their clothes.

Australia also offers naked bushwalking, naked ten pin bowling, and naked swimming to name a few, and Denmark now offers naked CrossFit after an April Fool’s prank proved hugely popular!

Naturist sessions for fitness are springing up across the UK, with yoga, gym classes and swimming all available. And they are very welcoming to newcomers!

Public nudity may not be everyone’s cup of tea though, and there are plenty of ways to get fit without taking your clothes off. But it’s certainly something a bit different that you may well enjoy if you’re willing to give it a go.

Will exercising naked make you fitter than exercising with your clothes on? Probably not, but it will give you something to talk about with your friends next time you’re down the pub!
