Four ways to change your fitness attitude

Four ways to change your fitness attitude

Has the January burst of enthusiasm worn off? Is the couch more tempting than the gym? Are you restocking the biscuit bin without doing the matching exercise?

If fitness seems a chore rather than a natural part of your life, then it is going to drop down the priority list. Try these mini-philosophies to help to improve your fitness attitude:

THERE IS NO DEADLINE

Setting yourself up to be fit for a holiday or a wedding may work for some. However it can encourage crash-dieting or over-training. Think long-term and resolve to be fit and healthy all the time. That way the deadlines vanish because you will always be in shape!

FITNESS IS GUILT-FREE ME-TIME

Those with family responsibilities often end up putting themselves last. Your family need you to be healthy and happy – and YOU need it too.  Take time out for the gym!

EAT THE ELEPHANT IN SMALL PIECES

No-one ever went from sofa spud to action person in a week. If you have a lot of fitness to gain or a fair bit of weight to lose, it is going to take a while. Work towards small goals. Those are also much more likely to be realistic.

CHOOSE YOUR ATTITUDE

This is a management/leadership concept. Before you yawn and switch off – this one does actually make sense! When there is something that you have to do (such as exercise), you can either be miserable doing it or happy doing it. That is your choice – so choose to be happy.

That’s four reasons to change your fitness attitude - here are ten more!

Perhaps the most important maxim is to treat your body as the gift that it is. You won’t get another – so love and look after the one that you have.
