Clocks back. Heating on. Weather no fun. It’s the time of year when many of us just want to hibernate. Great for bears, not so good for people.
With lots of winter comfort food around, we need to make sure that we balance our calorie intake with exercise. Very few of us find that there are obstacles to eating, but it seems easy to make excuses for not exercising.
Don’t give in. Here are the common barriers to exercise and how to Hussle them out of the way.
We get it. A mad whirl from home to work to friends to shops and then collapse into bed. Who has time for exercise? The answer is that it needs to go in the calendar, like all the other must-dos. It’s for your health – there isn’t much that is more important than that.
Things that are fun have a way of getting done. That means finding a class or workout that you enjoy. Whatever floats your boat. Dance-based, cycle-based, circuits, swimming. There’s so much choice, there has to be something that will hit the spot.
It doesn’t grow on trees, especially with the season of parties and presents approaching. Your front door is a free aid to fitness. Just open it and walk or run through, come back a bit later. And of course make the most of your Hussle discounts. Multipacks cost less and give you an incentive to get to the gym more often.
‘Gymtimidation’ – feeling inadequate, baffled or scared of all that strange kit, all those buff bodies, all those unwritten rules. Fight the fear by taking a friend or asking the staff for an induction or a one-to-one.
Barriers? What barriers? Let’s Hussle!
I've recently started a new fitness class - walking distance away so really easy. Yes, it is tempting to stay on the sofa but I bought a multi-class pass so there's an incentive to use it. And I never regret going.
Lack of motivation is definitely my problem this time of year. I just can't be bothered to move so much! Wait til the new year and it's a different story
