THE BEST WAYS TO GET RID OF A COLD FAST

A week is a long time in politics – and it is also a long time when you are waiting for a cold to disappear on its own. Is there anything you can do to speed things up?

Despite years of research and tests, there’s still no vaccine against the cold virus. Antibiotics won’t work, so you need to relieve the symptoms so the cold bothers you less. Try these 3 approaches:

1.      NOSE CLEARERS

Warm drinks and hot baths are an excellent way to clear those passages. Any hot drink will do, because it is the steam that is clearing your nose.

Decongestant medicine reduces the swelling of the blood vessels which causes the congestion, and will provide short-term relief to get you through the day.

2.      BODY BOOSTERS

Your body will be multi-tasking more than usual when you have a cold. In the same way as an overloaded computer, that means each task takes longer. Let your body heal more quickly by reducing the load. That means getting as much rest as you can.

In the streaming stage of a cold, please stay out of the gym. Not only will this help you recover more quickly, but you won’t pass the infection on.  As you recover, some gentle exercise will help and you can back to your workout.

3.      FOOD FIGHTERS

Proper nutrition is your body’s number 1 weapon against infection. That means good varied food.

Enough vitamin C is essential, from those fresh fruit and vegetables.  A supplement is worth a try if you can’t change your diet. Do remember that the body doesn’t store vitamin C so a mega-dose is a waste of time. Keep hydrated, and keep warm.

Most colds don’t need a doctor, but if symptoms won’t go or you start to feel worse then do seek help. Reduce the odds of future snuffles by frequent hand-washing, avoiding crowds and getting plenty of fresh air, good food and exercise.
