Everyone has their preferences and it is important to have a good understanding of your own feet, such as the gait and arch height, before choosing your running shoes.
If you’re putting in some decent miles then it’s worth having a gait analysis done at a good sports shop to ensure you choose the right running shoe for your feet.
Here are four of the best running shoes, both for men and women, which are very popular and for good reason:
The number at the end of this shoe’s name is an indication of its edition so yes, the Pegasus is in its 32nd edition and they just get better and better.
Nike consistently produce fantastic looking, high quality running shoes and this shoe incorporates Nike’s Flywire arch support system and a precision engineered mesh upper to provide a sock-like close fit and real comfort.
The shoes also feature Air Zoom cushioning which ensures you’re protected when out for longer runs.
These market leading shoes incorporate precision-fit single piece upper which is crafted with care and attention in a clothing factory which is said to deliver unparalleled levels of comfort.
This is combined with New Charged Cushioning which delivers everything you could want from a premium running shoe – impact protection, adaptive support that moulds to your foot and energy return.
Under Armour do recommend that you should size up by half a size if you go for these shoes.
A brand which needs no introduction and a shoe which is incredibly versatile, Adidas Ultra Boost has been designed with comfort and support in mind.
It features no separate tongue and a flexible knitted upper which wraps around the foot like a sock.
They provide the perfect combination of responsiveness and comfort and the “Boost” foam also ensures energy return and cushioning are well balanced for even long distance road runs.
Described as one of the most cushioned shoes you’ll find on the market, the Asics Gel Nimbus 17 has been built specifically for a woman’s foot – as due to smaller bones and wider hips our feet act and land differently as we run.
Softer foam and enhanced heel life ensure this Asics running shoe protects your foot and gives you all the support you need.
Further gel padding is built into the midsole to further enhance the comfort factor and a plastic heel counter ensures the rear of the foot is locked into place so you can keep up your pace without feeling constricted or weighed down.
Hi Sarah - I am the same but with size 9 or sometimes even size 10 feet (depending on the shoe make). I doubt there's much difference between men's and women's. The only frustration I find is that I can't find any nice pinky/turquoisy/girly colours above size 8!
being tall I have size 8 feet, and as choice is limited I use men's shoes for hiking - I find them much better and cheaper. Is there a difference in running shoes for men and women?
