On a Level Pegging. Sex makes no odds when it comes to weight loss

On a Level Pegging. Sex makes no odds when it comes to weight loss

It has long been believed that men can just drop weight when they feel like it but women really struggle. There are all number of reasons that women are told is more difficult for them to lose weight, from hormonal differences to the way their bodies manage their fat. New research suggests it’s all a myth.

A new in-depth report from the University of Leeds makes it clear from its title exactly what its results show. Titled “No Sex Difference in Body Fat in Response to Supervised and Measured Exercise” the study found that there is no difference between men and women when it comes to losing weight and also no increase in food intake when starting a new exercise regime.

The study involved 107 different men and women, all classed as overweight or obese. They were asked to carry out set exercise for twelve weeks, burning exactly 500 calories each workout. They had the choice of a small range of exercise equipment including treadmills, rowing machines and stationary bikes.

Researchers measured each participant’s calorie intake daily as well as their exercise each day and found that men lost little more weight than the women. This was thought to be due to increased muscle gain in the female subjects. They also found that both groups had reduced their body fat percentage by 2.45% and neither group saw an increase in calorie intake, despite the increase in exercise.

This is a huge shift in the way we think about weight loss for men and women. No longer do women have to feel like they’re fighting a losing battle as their other halves shed the pounds. This study gives women more incentive to keep pushing and keep dropping those pounds.

There’s no reason why both men and women can’t achieve exactly the same in the same time frame. Time to embrace a healthy lifestyle as a family.
